These are all hand-built little “soaps.” I rolled out slabs and then cut out the individual bars. After they were all cut out, I outlined the indentation, dug them out, and they were bisque-fired. After the firing, I carefully mixed the four colors of glaze (red, blue, green, yellow) with streaks of white, to imitate a hand-made bar of soap. Finally, I used dental tools to carve out the messages, and in some cases let the red of the clay show through, in some cases used red ink to enhance it, and in some cases, just carved out the letters. They were not high fired, because I wanted to preserve the dull look of the dry glazes, which is closer to the appearance of soap than a glossy, high-fired glaze would be.

Super Multipler Pong

This is a total work-in-progress, so pleeaasse please forgive me for the lack of functionality and bugginess.

After seeing (and gaming) the MMORPP project that was written in NodeJS, I wanted to play with this new funky language. Obviously, the first game you make in a new language is Pong. But how do you write Pong to take advantage of the beautiful anonymous-massive-multiplier capabilities of NodeJS and Socket.IO?

Super Multipler Pong!

The goal of the game is to hit the pong ball (not programmed yet, sorry!) with your pongers into the other team’s goal (not programmed yet, sorry!). But wait, how do you deal with anonymous users? Let them be anonymous! Well, if they cross the middle of the game field, they become a part of the new team! Oh!… but how do you stop people from cheating and just bulldozing the other team? Easy! You make it so pong balls can’t bounce off the backs of paddles, ever!

So, in this variation of Pong, you can have more than 2 players, and you can choose to join the winning team at the last second, making winning unimportant! Not that you were ever going to see any of these people every again :). It’s anonymous!

American Political Landscape

For the past week or so, I’ve been working on making infographics based on the results of a recent survey by the Pew Research Center for the People and Press. The Political Typology, conducted by Pew every six years since the late 80s, seeks to classify the mood of America’s political landscape by identifying groups of like voters based on demographics, policy view, and ideology.

Pew identified eight political classes in this recent study: Staunch Conservatives, Main Street Republicans, Libertarians, Disaffected, Post-Moderns, New Coalition Democrats, Hard-Pressed Democrats, and Solid Liberals.

[Kristin] First Encounter

I’m not going to say much about this. I like the way it stands on it’s own. His name is Akito. He is a character from an anime series that I enjoy. I think he’s beautiful.
